Director of Operations (Turnkey)

Summary

The Director of Operations, 3rd Party Contract Manufacturing (3PCM) is a key management role and is a member of Fusion’s leadership team. This role will oversee Fusion Beauty Lab operations including direction and oversight of turnkey project managers and account managers. Additionally, this role will setup and oversee transactional operations related to turnkey including purchasing, fulfillment, and delivery across multiple vendors and supply chains. The Director of Operations (3PCM) will ensure that Fusion Beauty Lab meets agreed deliverables for turnkey customer opportunities and executes on time and within costing targets. This role is a vital link in communicating and collaborating with the executive team and cross-functional leaders.

Position Relationships and General Duties

The Director of Operations (3PCM) reports to the Director of Operations.  Direct reports include project managers and account managers assigned to Fusion’s turnkey division.  Reporting structure is expected to expand as the division grows and may include operations coordinators or other similar positions in the future. This role will interface across various departments to include Product Development, China Operations, Sales, Packaging Design, Pricing & Finance, and Logistics.

The Director of Operations (3PCM) works directly with Sales Executives who identify qualified customer turnkey opportunities and provides operational opportunity strategy and support. The Sales Executives rely on the turnkey Project Managers for preliminary and final pricing, timeline creation and management, bill of material management, vendor communication and management, and overall opportunity execution.  Managing and supporting the activities of the turnkey Project Managers is one of the primary responsibilities of the role.  Effective operational opportunity support requires interfacing with vendors, suppliers, 3rd party laboratories, and contract manufactures.

The Director of Operations (3PCM) will collaborate with the Business Development Officer and Executive Director of Product Development working to assist in onboarding new items and formulations in the Fusion Beauty Lab stock catalog.  Product development items are managed via a master calendar and timing of these launches is committed to the Fusion Executive team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Turnkey Opportunity & Project Management

  • Responsible for prioritization of projects and opportunities and ensuring that adequate resources are assigned to each opportunity
  • Lead weekly project meetings, setting direction and prioritizing next steps to ensure successful customer turnkey product launches
  • Collaborate with cross functional team members to offer direction and provide solutions to any operational challenges that arise in the successful completion or turnkey sales opportunities
  • Identify new and improved processes that will result in simplified steps and/or time and expense reductions for the organization, especially as it relates to operational process

Transactional Operations

  • Review and update component transactional system including product and component ID numbers and descriptions, bill of material setups, production entry process, and general transactional procedures and expectations
  • Review and update pricing calculation model and work with pricing department to set procedures and expectations for gathering costs, processing calculations, and generating quotes
  • Gathering and managing cost structure for Beauty Lab products (i.e. preliminary and final formula costs from Product Development, labor and assembly costs from contract manufactures, secondary packaging costs from third party vendors, etc.)
  • Work closely with Logistics Manager to assist in onboarding of new shipping routes including importing and exporting of components in different countries (USA, Canada, Europe, Asia)
  • Manage an implement component inventory control across vendors and contract manufacturers (packaging, raw materials, secondary packaging, etc.)

Contract Manufacturers

  • Onboarding contract manufacturers into Fusion operational requirements
  • Building valuable relationships with contract manufacturer management teams that can be utilized to ensure opportunity timing is met
  • Lead project meetings with contract manufacturers during implementation phase of opportunities
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain/Logistics or related areas from an accredited college or university
  • 10 or more years of experience in operations/supply chain/logistics with 4 or more years in a leadership role
  • Extensive experience managing a 3rd party contract manufacturing operations environment
  • Familiarity with global contract manufacturing and logistics required
  • Prior beauty, skin-care, or cosmetic industry experience preferred
  • Proficiencies in Salesforce preferred
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel domestically (monthly) and internationally (annually) required
