Mechanical Packaging Engineer


 The Mechanical Packaging Engineer is a vital role in the Engineering Department and provides support to the engineering team with technical analysis regarding designs developments, product/package performance, customer development, quality concerns and product validation. This role will be detailed oriented in the day-to-day transactional work.


Position Relationships

This position is part of the engineering team and reports to the Sr. Director of Engineering. This role works primarily and directly with the Fusionpkg design, development, project managers, Fusionpkg China project engineering and account managers to deliver innovative new packaging for brands meeting their launch timelines. This includes daily follow-up with U.S. teams at the headquarters in Dallas and sales offices as verbal and email communication with the product teams in China.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the development and launching of new and innovative cosmetic packaging
  • Generate 3D CAD models of new concepts produced by in-house designers, as well as revision of the existing component files to ensure manufacturability while respecting the original design intent
  • Draft and review Product Performance Qualification (PQP), FMEA and Design Overview reports
  • Establish package testing criteria for new products
  • Perform thorough review and stack up analysis of component and assembly drawings
  • Present designs recommendations to senior management on key projects and initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommends packaging materials and processes that meet functional cost criteria, communicate potential risks to key stakeholders
  • Support product design changes to develop and improve existing products that affect existing packaging
  • Lead or participate in other assigned projects
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Packaging/Product innovation and technology advances
  • Maintain a working knowledge of environmental-related worldwide requirements
  • Create & maintain packaging component specifications
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Package Engineering or similar science from an accredited college or university
  • 3-5 or more years of proven package engineering & development experience in a technical packaging support position in cosmetics, beauty packaging or related CPG environment strongly desired
  • Proficient in SolidWorks Professional, CSWA or CSWP preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GD&T, statistics & process control
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of packaging material fundamentals
  • Comprehensive knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary packaging
  • Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance for the cosmetic industry with best practices
  • Mandarin language skills are a plus but not required

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The work environment and physical demands are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in an office setting.

The employee is frequently required to be in a stationary position and regularly use the computer keyboard and mouse and will view the computer monitor frequently. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
