Project Manager, Product Development (Cosmetics Formulations)

Position Summary

The Project Manager, Product Development Beauty Lab is a key member of the Product Development Team and the Beauty Lab division. The Program Manager works directly with Sales Executives who identify leads and customer opportunities and general opportunity support. The Sales Executive relies on the Project Manager for preliminary pricing and timelines for packaging changes. Pricing requires interfacing with suppliers, contract manufactures and other vendors to acquire costs. Information is consolidated and then communicated back to the sales team for customer driven projects. The Programs Manager’s input is a critical component in helping the Sales Executive finalize the sale.


The Program Manager, Beauty Lab collaborates with the Business Development Officer into transitioning stock componentry items into the Fusion catalogue. Items are also put on a master calendar – indicating when and which venues (such as trade shows) the product will be launched. The role will also fill newly launched stock items being on-boarded with turnkey formula options to expand the Beauty Lab formulation library.


Position relationships

The Program Manager, Beauty Lab reports to the Business Development Officer. On an on-going basis, the role interfaces with other members of the Product Development team, Sales, U.S. and China operations, Sample Coordinator, Packaging Engineer and the Marketing team.

Weekly Activities and Priorities

Project Management

  • Responsible for gathering and managing cost structure for Beauty Lab products (i.e. preliminary and final formula costs from Product Development, labor and assembly costs form contract manufactures, secondary packaging costs from third party vendors, etc.)
  • Communicate with China operations for sourcing of items related to turnkey sales and expansion
  • Research and preparing pricing, receive management approval on margins and forward a final quote to the sales team
  • Create preliminary and final timelines for customer projects
  • Place vendor purchase orders for customer’s projects and track project progress through duration
  • After development and once handed off from Product Development, oversee customer’s project through duration
  • Gather and organize all the necessary specification and document including Bill of Material (BOM-list of instructions on how to make a finish product), assembly instructions and costing


  • Create product ID numbers, BOM, customer sales order and request invoices from accounting
  • Invoice client for product development services
  • Interface with Sample Coordinator to manage sampling requests and inventory of sales turnkey sample in all offices
  • Manage inventory control (packaging, raw materials, secondary packaging)
  • Implement interdepartmental process for turnkey solutions
  • Lead or participate in departmental and project calls
  • Lead or participate in other assigned projects

Contract Manufacturing

  • Review Quality Agreements for each contract manufacturer and make suggestion to management regarding terms and other conditions
  • Be a primary contact with contract manufactures for orders placed; Ensure components are shipped and delivered to the contract manufacture within the proper time frame; Monitor tasks to ensure dates are met with suppliers including the contract manufactures (scale up, line trials, primary packaging, secondary packaging, artwork, etc.); Track shipping documents once order is complete (pre-shipping docs, C of A’s)
What we hope to find in your background
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics or related fields from an accredited college or university
  • 8 years or more experience in beauty industry with at least 3 years of experience in skincare or color cosmetics manufacturing
  • Proficiencies in Salesforce and Sage, SmartSheets or other timeline systems is strongly desired
  • Intermediate experience with MS Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior international logics experience is desirable
  • Ability to travel occasionally domestically required
