Product Development Project Manager

Summary

 The Product Development Project Manager (PDPM) is responsible for the successful launch of customer driven turnkey products.  The first focus of this role is the development, timeline management, change management, and approval management of formulations for turnkey customer opportunities.  The individual in this role is also responsible for working closely with the selected contract manufacturing partner for formula changes and approvals, timeline agreement, and launch management.  In addition to these primary focus areas, the PDPM assists in managing the selection, customization, and customer approval of primary and secondary packaging for turnkey opportunities.  This is accomplished through collaborative work with the FusionPKG packaging operations team.  Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the Product Development Project Manager to oversee all aspects of a new turnkey launch, managing the opportunity smoothly from inception to first delivery.

The Product Development Project Manager works closely to develop strong working relationships with BEAUTYLAB customers and contract manufacturers.  Internally, the PDPM will work closely with the Sales, Account Management, Product/Formula Development, Regulatory, and Operations departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Detailed and timely management of customer driven turnkey product opportunities
  • Constant and clear customer communication throughout the launch cycle
  • Formula development management for customer opportunities
  • Formula approval management, including formula alterations and shade matching
  • Timeline and milestone management
  • Vendor relationship development (CM, Secondaries)
Role and Responsibility Detail

Product Development (Formula)

  • Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, Design, and Operations to ensure timely execution on all product launches
  • Lead coordination, tracking, communication, and customer product approval from concept to delivered finished good
  • Participate in customer sales meetings during opportunity exploration
  • Write formula development briefs and review with contract manufacturers (CM) to manage questions, clarifications, and redirects
  • Manage formula development and approval with CM and customer and secondary component development and approval with selected vendors and customer
  • Manage CM costing requests and reviews for quotes for accuracy and reasonability; works with pricing department to facilitate customer quote development
  • Create Bill of Material (BOM) details to communicate project details to Purchasing, Logistics, and Operations teams
  • Creates and validates timelines for entire project including packaging, 2nds, formula
  • Manages approvals of Pricing, BOM, Timelines with BL Dir Ops

Production (First Order)

  • Work with Purchasing, Logistics, and Operations departments to confirm production details meet customer timeline expectations and manage communication between parties
  • Review scale-up batches and manage production approvals with customer and CM
  • Review pre-shipment samples and manage approvals with customer and CM
  • Responsible for continuing to confirm timeline and milestones throughout launch
  • Review reorders and confirm accuracy and confirm if new development is required
  • When reorder requires re-development, engage as if a launch order

Testing

  • Coordinate and oversee testing with third party testing facility
  • Coordinate and oversee testing with internal packaging lab and formulation labs
  • Assist in collecting and receiving mandatory compliance and regulatory documents for foreign countries as required, working with regulatory consultants as needed
Travel & Additional Duties
  • Travel as required to local laboratories and contract manufacturers (tri-state area)
  • Travel quarterly to North American trade shows (NY, LA, Las Vegas, etc)
  • Travel as needed to contract manufacturers (USA, Europe); expected total travel less than 15%
Position Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Product Development, Fashion, Product Marketing or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Three or more years Product Development experience, color cosmetic experience preferred
  • Prior Project Management and time tracking experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
